I am training to be a librarian, and one thing I have become involved with through work is a twinning project with Hikkaduwa public library in Sri Lanka, which was devestated by the 2004 tsunami, which damaged the fabric of the building and destroyed much of its furniture and 70% of its book stock. We've funded replacement stock and locally-sourced furniture which will hopefully be better able to withstand any future weather. We've now commenced on a refurbishment project, and recently presented the Urban Council there with a cheque for 1 000 000 rupees to begin.
